Destruction in Rahim Yar Khan: A violent dust storm accompanied by heavy rainfall caused widespread destruction across Rahim Yar Khan city and its surrounding rural areas on Tuesday, June 16, 2026. The intense windstorm toppled multiple boundary walls, uprooted trees, and brought down utility poles and commercial billboards. At least seven individuals, including a woman, sustained injuries in various structural collapse incidents. The collapse of electrical pylons completely disrupted the local power distribution network, plunging several areas into darkness.

National Weather Forecast: According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the turbulent weather system is expected to persist. The Met Office has forecast further dust storms, gusty winds, and isolated rainfall across various regions, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Punjab, Upper Sindh, and parts of Balochistan. Meanwhile, Karachi is expected to remain hot and humid today, with temperatures projected to hit 36°C.
Extreme Summer Temperature Baselines: The storm comes amid a punishing heatwave gripping the lower half of the country. On Tuesday, Sibi registered as the hottest spot in Pakistan with a blistering 48°C. Other notable maximum temperatures recorded across the country include Dadu at 46°C, Sukkur and Nawabshah at 43°C, Multan and Chilas at 40°C, Gilgit at 39°C, and Peshawar, Bannu, Quetta, and Muzaffarabad all touching 38°C. Lahore recorded 36°C, while Karachi and Islamabad remained slightly lower at 35°C.
