POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
China has voiced its support for Pakistan’s offer to host talks between the United States and Iran amid escalating tensions in the Middle East. At a press briefing in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian highlighted the global implications of the conflict and emphasized that dialogue and negotiations are the only viable solution.
“The effects of the Iran-US conflict are spreading throughout the Middle East and the world,” Lin said. “China supports every effort to reduce tensions, bring the situation under control, and resume constructive talks.”
Regarding Iran’s strategic control over the Strait of Hormuz, Lin stressed that maintaining peace and stability in the Gulf and securing critical sea routes aligns with the interests of the international community. He added that China will collaborate with regional partners and the global community to restore peace and ensure energy security.
The spokesperson further warned that the ongoing crisis poses a significant threat to the global supply chain, underscoring the urgency of diplomatic solutions. “China will work with the international community to find solutions to the energy and security challenges arising from the conflict,” he said.
The remarks come after Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that Islamabad is ready to host US-Iran talks, a move that was shared by US President Donald Trump on his social media platform, Truth Social. According to Reuters, an Iranian official confirmed that Pakistan has conveyed the US proposals to Tehran, with Pakistan or Turkey being considered as potential venues for the negotiations.
China’s support highlights Islamabad’s growing role as a trusted mediator in the Gulf crisis, with major international powers backing diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the conflict.
