POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
Trade & Export: The Donkey Meat Deal
The ECC has formally greenlit the export of donkey meat and hides from a specialized slaughterhouse in Gwadar. This move allows for the disposal of existing inventory under strict regulatory protocols. The project, primarily aimed at the Chinese market, is expected to generate new foreign exchange revenue while ensuring "foolproof" monitoring to prevent any meat from entering the local Pakistani food chain.
Funding for New Authorities & Governance
Several Technical Supplementary Grants (TSGs) were approved to kickstart new initiatives:
-
Cannabis Regulation: Rs 100 million was allocated to the Cannabis Control and Regulatory Authority (CCRA) to renovate and operationalize its facilities for industrial and medicinal monitoring.
-
AI in Accountability: Rs 372 million was granted to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for a major digital overhaul, including the implementation of AI-based systems to modernize investigations.
-
Provincial Incentives: Rs 311 million will go to the Balochistan Government to fund a specialized incentive package for high-ranking police and administrative officers (PSP/PAS) serving in the province.
National Pride: Rewards for Hockey
In a move to celebrate sports, the ECC approved Rs 30 million for the Pakistan National Hockey Team. This financial reward honors the team for their historic achievement in qualifying for the FIH Hockey World Cup for the first time in eight years.
Energy & State Enterprises
Regarding a proposal from the Power Division about agreements with ex-WAPDA distribution companies (XWDISCOs), the ECC decided to refer the matter to the Cabinet Committee on State-Owned Enterprises (CCoSOEs) for more specialized review.
