CRIME
Thieves have struck a makeshift livestock holding in Gulistan-i-Jauhar, making off with 25 sacrificial goats valued at Rs1.9 million. The incident highlights a recurring security concern in the area as Eid-ul-Adha approaches.
The Heist in Block 8
According to Malir Cantt SHO Agha Abdul Rasheed, the animals were being kept at an empty plot in Block 8, where the owner had even hired a dedicated watchman for security.
-
The Incident: On Saturday night, a group of three to four suspects arrived at the plot in a Suzuki van.
-
The Watchman’s Account: Despite being awake, the guard was neutralized when the suspects tied a cloth over his face and proceeded to load the goats into their vehicle.
-
Current Status: While police have secured CCTV footage of the theft, the owner has shown reluctance to formally file an FIR, which is currently stalling legal proceedings.
A Pattern of Thefts in Jauhar
This robbery echoes a similar high-profile incident from 2024, where a truck transporting goats from Hyderabad was hijacked near Kamran Chowrangi.
-
In that case, armed men on motorbikes held the driver at gunpoint, stealing his cash and phone before driving off with a consignment worth Rs1.5 million.
With livestock prices surging, these targeted thefts in Gulistan-i-Jauhar have raised alarms for traders and citizens alike who bring animals into the city ahead of the religious festival.
