POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
Senator Faisal Vawda on Tuesday stirred controversy after making an inflammatory statement regarding politicians during a televised talk show, hours after meeting President Asif Ali Zardari to discuss the country’s political situation.
According to a statement, Senator Faisal Vawda met President Asif Ali Zardari to exchange views on the prevailing political climate, parliamentary affairs, and issues of mutual interest.
Later, while speaking on Geo News’ programme Capital Talk, Vawda made remarks that drew widespread criticism. He claimed that Pakistan’s problems would be resolved if hundreds of politicians from the past three decades were executed, using language that has since been described by critics as extreme and irresponsible.
The comments quickly went viral on social media, prompting condemnation from political observers and civil society figures, who warned that such rhetoric undermines democratic norms and promotes violence.
During the programme, Vawda also spoke about constitutional matters, asserting that the proposed 28th Amendment would “definitely” be introduced. He said the amendment would address several key issues, including matters related to the National Finance Commission (NFC), through mutual consensus.
The senator did not elaborate on the timeline or specific details of the proposed amendment.
No official response had been issued by the presidency or political parties at the time of filing this report. However, analysts cautioned that escalating rhetoric by public officeholders risks deepening political polarization at a time when the country faces significant economic and governance challenges.
