The Federal Cabinet’s Privatization Committee has made a key decision advancing the privatization of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). The committee, chaired by Ishaq Dar, convened with ministers of finance, energy, state finance officials, and advisors on privatization to finalize consortium participation.

Fauji Fertilizer Joins Consortium

The committee approved the inclusion of Fauji Fertilizer Company as an additional member of the consortium bidding for PIA. Fauji Fertilizer will subscribe to 33.99 percent of the ordinary shares of National Airlines Equity Limited, the special-purpose company established for the airline’s privatization.

Consortium Leadership

Arif Habib Corporation will continue to serve as the lead company of the consortium. Investment in PIA will be routed through the special company set up by the successful bidder, ensuring structured and transparent capital deployment.

Next Steps

The decision of the Privatization Committee will now be forwarded to the federal cabinet for final approval, marking a significant step toward the long-awaited privatization of the national carrier. This move aims to improve operational efficiency, attract strategic investment, and strengthen the airline’s financial stability.
