The government has initiated critical steps to expedite preparations for the upcoming fiscal year’s budget, with important meetings slated over the coming weeks ahead of the budget presentation in Parliament.
The National Accounts Committee meeting has been scheduled for May 20 to discuss preliminary aspects of the budget. Following this, the Annual Plan Coordination Committee (APCC) will convene on May 26 to finalize the development budget for fiscal year 2025-26.
Proposals indicate an allocation of Rs 921 billion for development projects next year, significantly lower than the Rs 2,900 billion initially demanded by the Ministry of Development and Planning. The APCC will also approve the annual economic plan, setting key targets including the economic growth rate, inflation, and sector-wise goals for agriculture, industry, and services.
The final endorsement of the APCC decisions will rest with the National Economic Council (NEC), which is expected to hold its meeting by the end of May. The government aims to present the finalized budget for 2025-26 in Parliament on June 2.
These efforts reflect the government’s intent to ensure a well-coordinated and timely budget process aimed at sustaining economic growth and development priorities in the coming fiscal year.
