In April 26-27, 2026, during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) consultative meetings in Moscow and ahead of the Defense Ministers' gathering in Bishkek, Pakistan called for decisive and unified action against regional militancy

At the SCO Defence Ministers’ Meeting in Bishkek, Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif delivered a firm message on regional security, calling for an end to "blame games" while demanding verifiable action against militant groups.

Key Highlights of the Address

Minister Asif emphasized that Pakistan's sacrifices in the war on terror are undeniable, stating that "only a blind person" would fail to appreciate the country’s contributions. However, he pivotally addressed the growing security threats emerging from neighboring Afghanistan, specifically naming the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). He urged the regional bloc to ensure that Afghan soil is not exploited by these entities to launch attacks against Pakistani citizens.

Regional Diplomacy

On the sidelines of the summit, Asif engaged in high-level consultations with:

  • China and Iran (Deputy Defence Minister)

  • Kazakhstan and Tajikistan

These meetings focused on building a "transparent and confidence-building" framework for peace. This diplomatic push coincides with a surge in violence in Balochistan, including recent blasts in Quetta and Turbat, which have intensified Islamabad's urgency in seeking regional cooperation through the SCO.
