Pakistan Extends Airspace Ban on Indian Aircraft Until May 24

Pakistan has extended its ban on Indian aircraft, with authorities confirming that all Indian-registered planes, as well as flights operated or owned by Indian airlines — including military aircraft — will remain prohibited from using Pakistani airspace.

According to an official Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) issued by the Pakistan Airports Authority, the restriction will now stay in place until May 24, 2026, at 4:59am.

The ban applies to both of Pakistan’s major Flight Information Regions — Karachi and Lahore — covering the country’s entire airspace. The previous extension of the restriction was due to expire on April 24.

Airspace closures between Pakistan and India have been in effect since late April 2025, following heightened tensions triggered by a deadly incident in Pahalgam, located in Indian-administered Kashmir.

In response to the situation at the time, Pakistan implemented a series of countermeasures, including an immediate ban on Indian airlines using its airspace. These steps came after India accused Pakistan of involvement in the attack—an allegation Islamabad firmly rejected, while also proposing an independent investigation.

Tensions escalated further in the months that followed, including a major aerial confrontation in May. Pakistan claimed it had shot down multiple Indian fighter jets during the clash.

The continued extension of the airspace ban reflects the ongoing strain in relations between the two neighboring countries, with no immediate signs of normalization.
