Pakistan Navy Launches Operation Muhafizul Bahr to Safeguard Maritime Trade

The Pakistan Navy has launched Operation Muhafizul Bahr to counter “multidimensional threats” to national shipping and maritime trade, according to the military’s media affairs wing.

A statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations highlighted that the operation was initiated in response to the evolving regional maritime security environment and potential disruptions to critical sea lanes.

The Navy emphasized that the initiative is aimed at ensuring uninterrupted national energy supplies and securing sea lines of communication vital for Pakistan’s trade. With approximately 90 percent of Pakistan’s trade conducted via sea, the protection of maritime routes is considered crucial for the economy.

Currently, Pakistan Navy ships are escorting two merchant vessels in close coordination with the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation to guarantee safe transit.

The ISPR statement added that the Navy is actively monitoring and controlling merchant vessel movements and is fully prepared to respond to any emerging maritime security challenges.

The operation reflects Pakistan’s commitment to maintaining regional maritime security and ensuring that vital sea lanes remain safe and uninterrupted for both domestic and international trade.
