Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has confirmed that discussions are ongoing with the International Cricket Council (ICC) and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to address issues regarding the T20 World Cup.
Speaking after the auction of Multan’s PSL team, Naqvi emphasized the importance of respecting visiting guests and stated that while talks are in progress, no premature announcements will be made.
“We are waiting for information from the ICC. When someone comes on his own, many things should be forgotten,” Naqvi said, stressing that Pakistan has been contacted by many friendly countries at high levels to share its viewpoint.
On the matter of playing against India, the PCB Chairman clarified that the final decision rests with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and he is likely to meet the Prime Minister today to brief him on the ICC delegation meeting held yesterday.
Naqvi confirmed that a formula has been prepared in negotiations between the ICC, PCB, and BCB to remedy the injustice done to Bangladesh. Pakistan had earlier announced it would not play its scheduled T20 World Cup match against India on February 15, in solidarity with Bangladesh, after the ICC rejected Bangladesh’s request to shift its matches to Sri Lanka due to security concerns. Scotland was included instead.
According to sources, the ICC stands to face substantial financial losses due to the non-contest of the Pakistan-India match. Naqvi also emphasized that he is not afraid of anyone, including the government or field marshals, highlighting the board’s independent stance.
