Suspect Arrested in Lyari Extortion Case by Sindh Rangers

Sindh Rangers, in coordination with the Sindh Police, arrested a suspect involved in an extortion scheme in Lyari on Wednesday, according to an official statement.

The press release identified the arrested individual as Nasir, alias Nana, son of Taj Muhammad.

During initial questioning, the suspect disclosed that he, along with an accomplice, had sent an extortion slip demanding Rs1.2 million and two 30-bore pistol bullets to a rent-a-car owner via a private ride-hailing service parcel. Subsequently, the suspect allegedly made threatening calls through WhatsApp, warning the victim of death and severe consequences if the amount was not paid.

Authorities confirmed that raids are ongoing to apprehend the suspect’s accomplices. A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at the relevant police station. The arrested suspect has been handed over to police for further legal proceedings.

Officials appealed to the public to report similar criminal elements by contacting the nearest Rangers check post, the Rangers helpline at 1101, or the Rangers Madadgar WhatsApp number 0347-9001111, assuring confidentiality for informants.

This operation highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement and paramilitary forces to curb extortion and organized crime in Karachi’s urban neighborhoods.
