DG ISPR: Afghan Taliban Must Choose Between Pakistan and Terror Groups

The Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, on Friday said the Afghan Taliban must make a clear choice between standing with Pakistan or aligning with terrorist organisations operating from Afghan soil.

Addressing a press briefing on security forces’ response to what he described as unprovoked cross-border aggression, the military spokesperson said Islamabad had made its position unequivocally clear.

“The choice is between Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan, Baloch Liberation Army, Daesh, Al Qaeda and Pakistan,” he said, referring to militant outfits including Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), Islamic State and Al-Qaeda.

Chaudhry alleged that Afghan Taliban forces, in coordination with militants described by the state as Fitna al Khawarij (a term used for the banned TTP), carried out attacks at 53 locations along the Pak-Afghan border in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He claimed the attackers used quadcopters and heavy and light weapons.

According to the DG ISPR, Pakistan’s armed forces responded “immediately and effectively,” repulsing the attacks at all locations. He said Operation Ghazab lil-Haq was launched in retaliation.

Providing operational details, he claimed that 274 Afghan Taliban personnel and militants were killed and more than 400 injured. He further stated that 73 Taliban posts along the border were destroyed and 18 captured, while 115 tanks, armoured vehicles, and artillery pieces were eliminated.

Chaudhry said that 22 targets in Kabul, Kandahar, Paktia, Nangarhar, Khost and Paktika were struck, including alleged headquarters, ammunition depots, and logistical bases. He maintained that all targets were selected based on intelligence and that no civilian infrastructure was hit.

He added that 12 Pakistan Army soldiers were martyred, 27 injured and one reported missing in action during the clashes.

The DG ISPR also accused Afghan authorities and affiliated media of spreading misinformation about civilian casualties, rejecting those claims as false. He warned that any future terrorist activity against Pakistan would prompt a decisive response against “terrorists, their guardians and facilitators.”

“It is difficult to distinguish where the Taliban regime ends and where terrorism starts,” he said, reiterating that Pakistan’s choice “will always be Pakistan over everything.”
