A deadly explosion at a fireworks manufacturing factory in China’s Hunan province has killed at least 21 people and injured 61 others, according to state media reports. The blast occurred on Monday afternoon at a facility operated by Huasheng Fireworks Manufacturing and Display Company in Liuyang, a major hub for fireworks production under Changsha city administration.
The explosion caused massive destruction, collapsing buildings and sending thick smoke into the sky. Emergency response teams, including hundreds of firefighters, medical staff, and rescue personnel, were deployed to the scene. Authorities also used drones and rescue robots to assist in search and recovery operations.
Due to the presence of highly combustible materials such as black powder in nearby storage units, surrounding areas were evacuated to prevent further explosions. Rescue efforts continue as investigators work to determine the cause of the incident.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for a thorough and swift investigation into the tragedy and emphasized the need for stronger safety measures and accountability in high-risk industries.
The incident has once again raised concerns about industrial safety standards in China’s fireworks manufacturing sector, which is one of the largest in the world.
