The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has stated that, so far, there is no confirmed information indicating that any Iranian nuclear facility has been targeted or damaged following the recent military strikes by the United States and Israel.
An emergency session of the IAEA was convened in Vienna on Monday to assess the situation in Iran. Addressing the assembly, IAEA Chief Rafael Grossi said that efforts are ongoing to establish contact with the Iranian Nuclear Authority, but no official response has been received to date. He emphasized the need for communication channels to be opened with Iran as soon as possible.
“The situation requires extreme restraint from all parties involved in military operations,” Grossi said, urging careful action to prevent escalation and potential risks to nuclear facilities.
During the meeting, the Iranian representative was asked which nuclear sites, if any, had been attacked. The Iranian delegate claimed that the Natanz nuclear facility had been targeted, although the IAEA has yet to verify these claims.
The IAEA’s statements highlight concerns over nuclear safety and monitoring in the region amid the ongoing conflict, as international observers seek to ensure that military operations do not compromise nuclear installations or violate international safeguards.
The agency continues to monitor developments closely and is urging all parties to exercise restraint while diplomatic communication channels remain limited.
