Indian teams will not travel to Pakistan for bilateral sports events, says India’s Ministry of Sports.
India’s Ministry of Sports has clarified that Indian teams will not travel to Pakistan for bilateral sporting events, reaffirming that direct sports ties between the two countries remain suspended. However, the ministry stated that Pakistani athletes and teams will still be allowed to participate in multinational tournaments hosted in India under international sporting commitments.
According to Indian officials, bilateral series or exclusive sporting engagements between Pakistan and India are currently not possible, meaning neither Indian teams will visit Pakistan nor Pakistani teams will travel to India for bilateral competitions.
The development once again highlights the long-standing freeze in sports relations between the two neighbouring countries, particularly in cricket. Since 2012, Pakistan and India have not played a full bilateral cricket series, with matches between the two sides mostly taking place during ICC events or at neutral venues.
Despite political tensions affecting bilateral sports, multinational competitions involving both countries are expected to continue under international governing bodies and tournament regulations.
