Iran’s top negotiator in talks with the United States has issued a strong warning regarding the ongoing standoff in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, stating that Tehran has “not even started yet” in its response.
According to Iranian parliament speaker and lead negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the continuation of the current situation is unsustainable for the United States, while Iran still has significant options remaining in the ongoing dispute. He further stated that actions by the U.S. and its allies have jeopardized maritime security in the region, but claimed that their “malign presence will diminish” over time.
The comments come amid heightened tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil shipping route, where recent incidents involving naval confrontations, drone activity, and disruptions to commercial shipping have raised international concern. The situation has already impacted global oil markets and intensified fears of broader regional escalation.
The United States has increased its naval presence in the area under a maritime security mission, while Iran continues to assert its influence over the waterway, leading to a deepening geopolitical standoff.
