The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Saturday granted significant relief to Najaf Hameed, brother of former DG ISI Faiz Hameed, in a fraud case by staying his arrest and suspending proceedings by the Special Judge Central until the next hearing.
The development came during the hearing of a petition filed by Najaf Hameed challenging the legal basis of the case against him. According to court sources, the IHC, after hearing initial arguments, issued notices to the concerned parties and sought responses from relevant authorities. The hearing has been adjourned for further proceedings.
Najaf Hameed’s lawyer argued that the legal requirements for the case were not met, making the arrest unnecessary. The lawyer emphasized that his client is willing to cooperate with the investigation but contended that there are procedural flaws in the decision of the Special Judge Central, necessitating a stay on its implementation.
The court observed that the points raised in the petition appear “worth considering” and directed the relevant institutions to respond to the concerns.
The stay provides temporary relief to Najaf Hameed while the court examines the legal validity of the proceedings against him.
