POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
The joint opposition held a major press conference outside the Azad Kashmir Legislative Assembly in Muzaffarabad, strongly criticising the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)-led government and warning of possible political action if its conduct does not change.
Opposition leader Shah Ghulam Qadir said that Azad Jammu and Kashmir is a sensitive region and stressed that public issues should be debated within the assembly rather than outside it.
He claimed that the PPP government lacked a clear majority in the house and cautioned that if its “attitude” was not corrected, the opposition could consider bringing a no-confidence motion.
Former prime minister Raja Farooq Haider reiterated his earlier remarks that a fifth prime minister could emerge if instability continues. He described the recent approval of a condemnation resolution in the assembly as an unusual move, questioning the government’s handling of parliamentary affairs.
Meanwhile, opposition leader Khawaja Farooq Ahmed clarified that he supported the completion of the current assembly’s constitutional term and the holding of timely elections. He stated that he did not favour the installation of a fifth prime minister and preferred political stability through democratic means.
The press conference signals rising political tensions in Azad Kashmir, as opposition parties intensify pressure on the PPP-led administration over governance and parliamentary matters.
