Khawaja Asif Blasts Pakistan Hockey Federation Over Team Mismanagement

Defense Minister Khawaja Asif on Wednesday publicly criticized the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) following reports of mismanagement during the national hockey team’s recent tour of Australia.

In a statement posted on X, Asif said the Pakistan hockey players refused to play due to substandard treatment and facilities, and warned that the mistreatment will continue unless political appointees are removed from the PHF.

Political Interference in Hockey

Asif said, “We political parties do not do as much politics as the Hockey Federation. This mismanagement has been going on for years.” He stressed the need for transparency and accountability in the federation’s operations, calling for an investigation into its financial affairs.

Player Complaints

During the Australia tour, videos surfaced showing poor living conditions for the team. Upon returning to Pakistan, team captain Imad Butt confirmed that players were forced to wash their own dishes and clothes, and complained about substandard accommodation.

Imad Butt refused to continue working under the current management and demanded immediate corrective action from the PHF, citing the limited time remaining before the upcoming World Cup.

Parliamentary Oversight

Khawaja Asif indicated that the matter would be raised in the National Assembly and addressed by the relevant parliamentary committee. He emphasized that reforms were necessary to safeguard Pakistan’s national sport from political interference and mismanagement.
