Noted Cleric Maulana Idrees Martyred in Targeted Firing Incident in Charsadda

A prominent religious scholar, Maulana Idrees, was martyred in a targeted firing incident in Charsadda, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, when unidentified armed attackers opened fire on his vehicle.

According to initial reports, the incident took place when Maulana Idrees was travelling in the Utmanzai area. Gunmen riding motorcycles ambushed his vehicle and opened indiscriminate fire before fleeing the scene. The cleric sustained critical injuries and was shifted to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his wounds.

Two police officials who were accompanying or deployed for his security were also injured in the attack and were taken to a medical facility for treatment. Law enforcement agencies immediately cordoned off the area and launched an investigation into the incident.

Police have described the attack as a targeted killing, while search operations and evidence collection, including CCTV footage review, are underway to identify and arrest the perpetrators. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.

The incident has raised concerns over targeted violence in the region, prompting security alerts and calls for improved protection of religious scholars and public figures.
