The Jury Appointment: Celebrated Tunisian filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania has officially secured a prestigious position on the main competition jury for the upcoming 83rd Venice International Film Festival. The appointment follows her monumental triumph at last year's festival, where her critically acclaimed film The Voice of Hind Rajab won the Silver Lion—the festival's second-highest honor—after receiving a record-breaking 22-minute standing ovation during its world premiere.

An Elite International Panel: The Venice Biennale organizers unveiled a highly diverse, international seven-member panel to judge the main competition line-up. The jury will be presided over by American filmmaker and actor Maggie Gyllenhaal as Jury President. Gyllenhaal, an Oscar-nominated actor for 2009's Crazy Heart, previously won Venice's Best Screenplay award for her psychological thriller directorial debut. Joining Gyllenhaal and Ben Hania on the panel is dissident Afghan filmmaker Shahrbanoo Sadat, whose latest feature No Good Men opened the Berlinale Film Festival earlier this year.

The Strategic Timeline and Awards: The remaining seats on the star-studded panel will be filled by British composer and director Daniel Blumberg, Italian film theorist Francesco Casetti, French director Xavier Giannoli, and iconic Taiwanese auteur Johnnie To. This seven-member collective will bear the responsibility of distributing Venice's official selection tier of awards, including the coveted Golden Lion for Best Film, the Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize, and the Coppa Volpi acting cups. The 83rd iteration of the world's oldest film festival is officially scheduled to run from September 2 to September 12, 2026.
