Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has said that Pakistan’s position during recent negotiations with the International Cricket Council (ICC) was taken purely to show respect and support for Bangladesh, with no personal or political motives involved.
Speaking about the talks, Naqvi said that the PCB had not set any conditions except those related to Bangladesh. “Our aim was only to give respect to Bangladesh. We did not have any personal motives,” he stated.
The PCB chairman explained that Pakistan’s objective was to highlight what he termed the injustice faced by Bangladesh in international cricket. “This step was taken for Bangladesh, and all the demands of Bangladesh were accepted,” he added.
The remarks come days after negotiations were held in Lahore involving the ICC, PCB, and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) following Pakistan’s decision to boycott its T20 World Cup match against India.
The meeting was attended by ICC Deputy Chairman Imran Khawaja, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, and BCB President Aminul Islam.
Following the discussions, the ICC issued a statement outlining the outcomes of the negotiations. According to the ICC, no fine will be imposed on Bangladesh for not participating in the T20 World Cup 2026.
The ICC further announced that Bangladesh would be given the opportunity to host an ICC event in the future. As per the statement, the Bangladesh Cricket Board will host an ICC event between 2028 and 2031.
Subsequently, requests were made by the Sri Lankan president and the Bangladesh Cricket Board urging Pakistan to play its scheduled match against India. Following these appeals, the government granted permission for the Pakistan cricket team to participate in the match.
The developments are being viewed as a significant diplomatic and administrative outcome within international cricket, highlighting Pakistan’s role in advocating for Bangladesh during the negotiations.
