The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Monday issued a nationwide weather advisory forecasting rain and thunderstorms in several regions of Pakistan from March 17 to 20.
According to the PMD, a westerly wave is expected to enter western Pakistan on Tuesday, bringing partly cloudy weather, rain, and thunderstorms to Karachi and other parts of Sindh from March 18 to 19. Strong winds and isolated hailstorms are also likely in districts including Jamshoro, Hyderabad, Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, Matiari, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allah Yar, Umerkot, Tharparker, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Nosheroferoz, Shaheed Benazirabad, and Dadu.
Northern Sindh districts including Larkana, Qamber Shahdad Kot, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Kashmore, Ghotki, and Sukkur are expected to see heavy rainfall with occasional gaps during the same period. Lightning strikes may occur at isolated places, and farmers are advised to protect their crops.
The Sindh Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has directed authorities to take “all necessary mitigation measures” to minimize risks from the weather system.
Other Regions
- Balochistan: Rain, thunderstorms, and isolated hail are expected in districts including Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Chagai, Noshki, Harnai, Zhob, Kalat, Mastung, Barkhan, Sibi, Loralai, Khuzdar, Kech, Gawadar, Panjgur, and Awaran from the evening of March 17 until March 20.
- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall expected in Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Shangla, Kohistan, Buner, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Mardan, Peshawar, Swabi, Charsadda, Kohat, Kurram, Bannu, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Dera Ismail Khan, and Waziristan.
- Punjab: Rain expected in Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Sargodha, Mianwali, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Khushab, Noorpurthal, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Okara, and Kasur, as well as Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
- Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir: Rain and snowfall forecasted in Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Guanche, Shigar, Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur.
The PMD has urged the public to remain cautious, particularly in areas prone to flash floods, landslides, and lightning, and to follow guidance from local disaster management authorities.
