Qatar Warns Iran Has Crossed “Red Lines,” Calls for De-escalation Amid US-Israel-Iran Conflict

Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Majed al-Ansari, on Tuesday warned that Iran has crossed “many red lines” with its ongoing attacks on neighboring countries, stressing the urgent need for de-escalation as the US-Israel war with Iran shows no immediate end.

Speaking at a press conference, al-Ansari highlighted that Iran’s strikes on Qatar were causing a catastrophic effect on bilateral relations and urged all parties to avoid targeting nuclear or energy infrastructure, cautioning that any further escalation would result in more losses for all sides.

Since the US and Israel began joint attacks on Iran in late February, Tehran has launched strikes across multiple regional countries – including Qatar, Iraq, Syria, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, Jordan, and Kuwait – despite these nations not being direct participants in the conflict. While Iran maintains that its targets are US assets in the region, the affected countries have condemned the attacks and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities due to damage to civilian infrastructure, including airports, ports, and energy facilities, as well as casualties.

Al-Ansari emphasized Qatar’s ongoing support for Pakistan’s mediation efforts, stating, “We totally support the endeavours made by Pakistan, and we hope it will bear fruit and bring about permanent peace and stability in the region.”

Pakistan-led peace efforts have intensified in recent days. Last Sunday, Pakistan hosted four-way talks with foreign ministers from Turkiye, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt to discuss ending the war and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. On Tuesday, Pakistan and China jointly released a five-point initiative calling for:

  1. Immediate cessation of hostilities.
  2. Launch of peace talks with all parties.
  3. Safeguarding the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security of Iran and Gulf states.
  4. Protection of non-military targets and shipping, including the Strait of Hormuz.
  5. Establishing lasting peace based on the UN Charter and international law.

Amid these diplomatic efforts, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed that while the US continues negotiations with Iran, it is keeping military escalation on the table, signaling that diplomatic and military pressures are being pursued simultaneously.

As the conflict spreads across the Middle East, Qatar and Pakistan’s mediation efforts aim to contain the war, prevent further civilian damage, and restore stability in the Gulf region.
