The residence of MNA Mubarak Zeb, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Tribal Affairs, was targeted with a rocket attack early Saturday morning. According to the police, the rocket struck a neighboring house, causing structural damage but no loss of life.
The incident marks the second targeted attack on the MNA’s home in the span of two months. In May, an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated outside his residence, partially damaging the property.
District Police Officer (DPO) Waqas Rafique confirmed to Dawn.com that the rocket attack took place in the early hours and hit the home adjacent to the MNA’s, damaging its walls and gate. "Fortunately, there were no casualties," he said.
MNA Mubarak Zeb, who is affiliated with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) as an independent backed candidate, also confirmed the attack via a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating that his home was the intended target, but the rocket missed.
The police have launched a search operation to apprehend the attackers. "Miscreants have once again targeted the MNA’s residence. We are working to track down those responsible," added DPO Rafique.
Zeb has remained a controversial figure since voting in favor of the 26th Constitutional Amendment, defying PTI’s official stance. The party had announced disciplinary action against him and other dissenting lawmakers earlier this year.
The attack comes amid a surge in cross-border and internal violence in Bajaur. Earlier this week, a mortar shell fired from Afghanistan struck a house in Salarzai tehsil, killing one man and injuring two women. In April, four children were wounded in a similar incident in Lowi Mamund tehsil. That same month, a roadside bomb targeted a Frontier Corps vehicle, injuring eight people, including three security personnel.
The recurring violence highlights growing security concerns in Bajaur, which has seen a resurgence of militant activity and cross-border threats in recent months. Authorities have ramped up operations but challenges persist due to difficult terrain and porous borders.
