The Shawwal moon was not sighted in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Qatar, confirming that Eid al-Fitr 1447 AH will be celebrated on Friday, March 20, 2026.
In Saudi Arabia, observatories across multiple cities held meetings to sight the new moon. The Saudi Supreme Court had also appealed to citizens to report sightings, but no evidence of the moon was observed anywhere in the kingdom.
After reviewing reports from all observatories and Ruet-e-Hilal committees, the Supreme Court officially announced that Ramadan 1447 AH will be 30 full days of fasting, and Eid al-Fitr will begin on Friday, March 20.
Similarly, authorities in the UAE and Qatar conducted official moon-sighting meetings. As the Shawwal moon was not sighted, both countries confirmed Friday, March 20, as the first day of Shawwal 1447 AH.
This announcement allows Muslims in the Gulf region to prepare for Eid prayers, family gatherings, and celebrations in a unified manner, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
