Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, warned on Thursday that the kingdom reserves the right to take military action if deemed necessary following recent attacks on civilian infrastructure attributed to Iran.
Speaking after a key meeting of foreign ministers of Arab and Islamic countries in Riyadh, Prince Faisal said that two oil refineries in the Saudi capital had been targeted, undermining Iran’s reputation and escalating regional tensions. He condemned Iran’s hostile actions and urged Tehran to reconsider its approach, warning that continued support for proxy groups would not yield any gains.
The Saudi Foreign Minister emphasized that both political and non-political measures were on the table. “If political pressure fails, Saudi Arabia reserves the right to take military action,” he stated, adding that leadership would make the necessary decisions at the appropriate time.
Prince Faisal also highlighted the importance of protecting maritime navigation in the Gulf and stressed that collective measures would be taken to counter threats to freedom of navigation. He criticized Iran for misreading clear warnings from the region, noting that such miscalculations have further escalated tensions.
The press conference underlined Riyadh’s firm stance on defending its sovereignty while continuing to pursue diplomatic and political channels wherever possible, signaling a readiness to respond decisively if regional security is threatened.
