Pakistan’s ODI captain Shaheen Shah Afridi has announced that three young players will make their international debut during the upcoming One Day International (ODI) series against Bangladesh.
Speaking at a press conference in Dhaka, Afridi said the team management has decided to provide opportunities to emerging players as part of preparations for the next ICC World Cup.
The captain clarified that no player had been dropped from the squad for the series, explaining that the move was aimed at strengthening the team by testing young talent.
“We want to give young players a chance. These players will become the strength of the team in the future,” Afridi said.
Three debutants announced
Afridi confirmed that the three players set to make their ODI debuts are Moaz Sadaqat, Sahibzada Farhan and Shamil Hussain.
According to the captain, Moaz Sadaqat will open the batting in the upcoming match, while Shamil Hussain is expected to bat at the number three position.
“These players will help us build the best possible combination ahead of the World Cup,” Afridi added.
Players with domestic experience
The captain noted that the selected players have already gained valuable experience through domestic competitions and development teams.
He said several members of the squad have played List A cricket and represented Pakistan Shaheens, which serves as Pakistan’s second-tier national side.
Afridi also pointed out that some players, including Moaz Sadaqat and Sahibzada Farhan, have previously played in Bangladesh, giving them familiarity with local conditions.
Focus on team combination
Responding to a question about the playing XI, Afridi said the final lineup would be decided based on team requirements and pitch conditions.
He also acknowledged that home teams generally enjoy an advantage due to familiarity with local conditions.
“Every team performs better in home conditions,” he said. “We will decide the playing XI according to the needs of the team and the condition of the pitch.”
The ODI series against Bangladesh is expected to provide Pakistan with an opportunity to test new combinations and build squad depth as preparations continue for future international tournaments.
