Travel Advisory: Flight Disruptions Expected at Islamabad Airport This Weekend

The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has issued a formal travel advisory for Islamabad International Airport, warning of scheduled disruptions to flight operations over the coming weekend.

Islamabad Flight Disruptions

Citing "operational reasons," the PAA released a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) indicating that both arrivals and departures may face significant delays.

The Affected Windows:

  • Friday, May 8: 10:45 AM to 12:15 PM

  • Saturday & Sunday (May 9–10): 8:00 PM to 9:15 PM

To mitigate the impact of these delays, the authority has instructed all incoming flights to carry extra "holding fuel," allowing aircraft to remain in the air longer if they are forced to wait for a landing slot. Similar measures were previously taken in March to facilitate operational requirements.

PIA Reinstates Oman Routes

In a positive development for the Pakistani diaspora, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced the resumption of its flight services from the Sultanate of Oman, effective May 13, 2026.

The airline had temporarily suspended Gulf routes (excluding Saudi Arabia and the UAE) in April due to soaring jet fuel costs. The reinstated weekly schedule from Muscat includes:

  • To Lahore: Tuesdays and Thursdays

  • To Multan: Wednesdays and Saturdays

  • To Islamabad: Fridays

The Pakistan Embassy in Oman confirmed the news, noting that the move aims to facilitate travel for the community following the brief suspension
