US President Donald Trump has stated that Iran has rejected all diplomatic efforts aimed at reaching a deal, as tensions continue to escalate in the region.
In his remarks, Trump emphasized that his administration had taken unprecedented steps in dealing with Iran, claiming he was addressing the failures of previous US presidents. He reiterated that diplomacy had always been his top priority, but accused Iran of continuing its pursuit of nuclear weapons despite multiple attempts at negotiations.
“Iran has rejected every attempt at a deal,” Trump said, adding that the United States had shown restraint while keeping diplomatic channels open.
The US president also suggested that countries not directly involved in the conflict should consider purchasing oil from the United States, while urging them to take greater responsibility for securing the Strait of Hormuz—a critical global energy route.
Trump clarified that regime change in Iran was not an official objective of the United States. However, he indicated that Iran’s leadership had been weakened and suggested that a more moderate leadership could emerge in the future.
He further warned that if diplomatic progress remains stalled, the United States would continue to monitor key targets closely, leaving open the possibility of limited military action if deemed necessary.
Meanwhile, tensions have intensified following claims by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard of launching more than 100 missile and drone attacks targeting US and Israeli positions. The group also claimed that 37 US soldiers were killed in the attacks, though independent verification of these figures remains unclear.
In a conversation with Reuters prior to his speech, Trump stated that the United States would soon scale back its presence in Iran but could return for limited operations if the situation requires.
The latest developments underscore the fragile state of diplomacy in the region, as both sides continue to exchange warnings amid growing fears of further escalation.
