POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
The United States has rejected a new proposal from Iran aimed at ending the ongoing conflict, raising concerns about further escalation in the region.
According to reports, Iran presented a plan focusing on an immediate ceasefire and the reopening of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz to ease regional tensions. The proposal suggested delaying discussions on Iran’s nuclear program to a later stage.
However, US officials stated that President Donald Trump was not satisfied with the offer, as it did not include clear commitments or restrictions regarding Iran’s nuclear activities.
Washington has maintained that any agreement to end the war must address Iran’s nuclear ambitions as a top priority. In contrast, Tehran is pushing for an immediate halt to hostilities and relief from economic pressure before engaging in broader negotiations.
The development comes amid stalled diplomatic efforts, including talks mediated by Pakistan, which have so far failed to produce a breakthrough. The ongoing tensions and the disruption of shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz continue to pose a serious threat to global trade and oil supplies.
