China Welcomes Pakistan-Afghanistan Ceasefire, Condemns Attacks on Civilians

China has welcomed the announcement of a temporary ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan, while condemning the recent killing of Iranian leaders and attacks on civilian targets amid rising regional tensions.

Speaking at a regular press briefing, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said China hoped both countries would remain calm, resume peace talks promptly, and achieve a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire. He stressed the importance of resolving differences through dialogue to maintain peace and stability between Pakistan and Afghanistan, as well as across the region.

The temporary pause in Pakistan’s Operation Ghazab Lil Haq against the Afghan Taliban and terrorist hideouts was reportedly requested by mediating countries and coincides with the upcoming Eidul Fitr holidays. China welcomed these efforts and said it was playing a constructive role in facilitating dialogue.

Lin also condemned attacks on civilians and the killing of Iranian leaders, including the reported death of Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, in an Israeli strike. “The killing of Iranian leaders and attacks on civilian targets are by no means acceptable,” he said, reiterating China’s opposition to the use of force.

China announced emergency humanitarian assistance for Iran, Jordan, Lebanon, and Iraq, highlighting worsening humanitarian conditions caused by the regional conflicts. Lin emphasized China’s commitment to promoting peace, supporting ceasefires, and preventing the humanitarian crisis from worsening.

Meanwhile, Gulf Arab states are reportedly urging the United States not to limit its military campaign against Iran, calling for efforts to neutralize Tehran’s ability to threaten the region’s oil lifeline.

China’s statements reflect its continued diplomatic efforts to mediate conflicts in South Asia and the Middle East while emphasizing humanitarian relief and regional stability.
