Electricity Rates Hiked Nationwide by Rs 1.63 per Unit, NEPRA Announces

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a nationwide increase in electricity prices by Rs 1.63 per unit under the fuel price adjustment for January. The hike will be reflected in consumers’ March electricity bills.

According to the NEPRA notification, the increase applies to all electricity consumers across the country, including Karachi, but does not affect lifeline consumers or electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.

The regulatory authority had reserved its decision following a hearing on the January fuel price adjustment, and the notification formalizes the increase as part of the monthly adjustment mechanism.

The adjustment aims to offset rising costs of fuel and ensure continued stability in the national power sector, though authorities have emphasized protection for vulnerable consumers through exemptions.
