Farhan’s Century Secures Pakistan’s Super Eight Spot with 102-Run Win Over Namibia

Pakistan cricket team secured a commanding 102-run victory over Namibia cricket team in the final Group A match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 on Wednesday, booking their place in the Super Eight stage.

Batting first at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo, Pakistan posted 199/3 in 20 overs, powered by a brilliant maiden T20 International century from Sahibzada Farhan. Opening with Saim Ayub, Farhan recovered after an early wicket and shared crucial partnerships, notably 81 runs with Shadab Khan for the fourth wicket, before remaining unbeaten on 100 off 57 balls with 4 sixes and 11 fours. Shadab Khan also contributed 36 not out off 22 balls, anchoring Pakistan’s innings.

For Namibia, Jack Bressell took 2 wickets and captain Gerhard Erasmus claimed one, but it was insufficient to stop Pakistan from posting a formidable total.

Chasing 200, Namibia’s innings collapsed under disciplined Pakistani bowling. A brief 32-run opening stand between Lorraine Steenkamp and John Frylink could not provide momentum. Key wickets fell quickly, including Erasmus for 7 and Steenkamp for 23. Pakistan bowlers dominated with Usman Tariq taking 4/16 and Shadab Khan 3/19, while Salman Mirza and Mohammad Nawaz chipped in with one wicket each. Namibia was bowled out for 97 in 17.3 overs, handing Pakistan a massive 102-run victory.

The win ensures Pakistan joins India in the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup. Pakistan’s upcoming Super Eight fixtures include matches against:

  • New Zealand – February 21
  • England – February 24
  • Sri Lanka – February 28

Pakistan’s Tournament Journey

Pakistan began the tournament on February 7 with a thrilling three-wicket win over the Netherlands, chasing down 148 with seven wickets lost. On February 10, they defeated the United States by 32 runs, scoring 190 and restricting the Americans to 158.

The Group A decider against Namibia was crucial following a 61-run loss to India on February 15, which had placed Pakistan third in the points table with a net run rate of -0.403. A defeat against Namibia would have allowed the United States to advance, making this win essential for progression.

Captain Salman Ali Agha won the toss and elected to bat, making two changes from the previous game, with Shaheen Shah Afridi and Abrar Ahmed replaced by Khawaja Nafi and Salman Mirza. Speaking after the toss, Agha said there was no pressure on the team, confident after a strong performance against the USA.

With this dominant display, Pakistan enters the Super Eight stage with confidence, led by an in-form batting line-up and a potent bowling attack, keeping fans’ hopes high for the knockout stages of the T20 World Cup 2026.
