POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has implemented enhanced cybersecurity measures to protect its critical and sensitive data in response to growing cyber threats. A report detailing these measures was submitted to the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Finance.
According to the report, geo-fencing controls have been deployed to block internet traffic originating from hostile countries. Modern security systems are now fully operational across the infrastructure of FBR and Pakistan Revenue Automation Limited (PRAL), while data centers at the Paral Head Office have also received state-of-the-art security installations. Implementation of these systems is ongoing at FBR House and the Karachi Data Center.
The Security Operations Center is overseeing real-time monitoring of networks and applications, with heightened alert protocols to respond immediately to any suspicious activity. Access to internet-based applications is strictly controlled and limited to business requirements, while anonymous traffic via Tor or unauthorized VPN browsers has been heavily restricted.
These measures aim to strengthen Pakistan’s revenue collection system against potential cyberattacks and safeguard taxpayer and institutional data from misuse. The FBR has emphasized its commitment to maintaining high standards of cybersecurity as threats in the digital space continue to evolve.
