Iran has rejected recent statements by Donald Trump claiming that productive talks had taken place between Washington and Tehran to resolve the Middle East conflict.
According to Iranian media, the Foreign Ministry clarified that there are no direct discussions between the two nations. The statement said Trump’s comments are intended to reduce global energy prices and buy time for the implementation of US military plans.
A senior Iranian security official described the US president’s statements as “psychological warfare,” noting that the threat of Iranian retaliation was the reason the US postponed attacks on Iran’s power plants and energy infrastructure.
Trump had posted on social media that the United States and Iran had engaged in “very positive” and “fruitful” talks regarding a complete resolution of hostilities in the region, and that all US military strikes on Iranian power facilities would be delayed for five days.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry emphasized that while some regional countries have proposed measures to reduce tensions, these should be addressed to Washington, “the party that started this war,” and not to Tehran.
Global energy markets reacted immediately to Trump’s announcement. Crude oil prices fell sharply before trading hours, with Brent crude dropping from $109 per barrel to $94, before rising above $97. WTI crude also fell by nearly 10% to $88.80 per barrel.
The dispute underscores continued uncertainty in the region, as both sides maintain conflicting narratives over diplomacy and military strategy, keeping oil markets volatile and raising concerns over global energy supply.
