Israeli media has claimed that a meeting between senior US and Iranian officials could take place in Islamabad this weekend as international efforts continue to mediate tensions in the ongoing Middle East conflict.
According to the reports, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and other Iranian officials could represent Tehran, while Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, and US Vice President JD Vance might represent Washington. Turkish, Pakistani, and Egyptian officials are reportedly acting as intermediaries to facilitate communication between the two sides.
Sources cited by the US journalist on X-Post indicated that senior officials from Egypt and Pakistan have already held separate talks with the US and Iranian teams, and that “progress is being made” in negotiations aimed at ending the war and resolving outstanding issues.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump claimed that Iran wanted to make a deal and that ongoing discussions could lead to a resolution.
However, Tehran has strongly rejected claims of negotiations. The Iranian Foreign Ministry stated that there are no talks between Tehran and Washington, asserting that US statements are aimed at reducing energy prices and buying time to implement military plans. According to the ministry, regional countries may be conveying proposals, but all such requests should be directed at Washington, and Iran is not the party that initiated the conflict.
A spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry confirmed that while messages from friendly nations have been received, Iran has not responded to US overtures.
If the meeting proceeds in Islamabad, it would mark a rare venue for high-level direct engagement between the two nations amid an increasingly tense regional conflict that has affected global energy markets and heightened fears of further escalation.
