Ishaq Dar to Represent Pakistan at OIC Ministerial Session on Israeli Settlements

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will visit Saudi Arabia from February 26 to 28 to participate in the Open-Ended Extraordinary Ministerial Session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Executive Committee, the Foreign Office announced on Wednesday.

The session, scheduled for February 26 in Jeddah, aims to address “illegal decisions of the Israeli occupation authorities” concerning settlement expansion, annexation, and attempts to impose sovereignty over the Occupied West Bank. The meeting comes after the Israeli government approved a proposal to register large areas of the West Bank as “state property” for the first time since 1967, a move considered a violation of international law.

At the session, FM Dar will present Pakistan’s stance on Israel’s recent measures to convert areas of the Occupied West Bank into “state land.” He is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with counterparts from OIC member states and make brief visits to the Holy Cities, according to the FO statement.

The decision by Israel has drawn widespread condemnation. Pakistan, along with several Muslim and European countries, described the move as an “unacceptable de facto annexation” and a clear violation of international law, including UN Security Council resolutions and the 2024 Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice.

The Palestinian Presidency termed the decision a “serious escalation,” stating it nullifies signed agreements and contradicts UN Security Council resolutions. Hamas also criticized the move, describing it as an attempt “to steal and Judaise lands in the occupied West Bank by registering them as so-called ‘state lands’.” Most Palestinian land remains unregistered due to procedural restrictions imposed by Israel since 1967, making the new registration policy particularly significant in terms of establishing permanent ownership.

FM Dar’s visit underscores Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement on the issue and its commitment to raising concerns over violations of international law and Palestinian rights at multilateral platforms.
