Authorities have launched an investigation into the violent rioting outside the United States Consulate Karachi that resulted in the deaths of 11 people and injuries to more than 30 others.
According to officials, a special committee headed by Additional Inspector General of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Zulfiqar Lark has been constituted to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The committee has started its inquiry and summoned several senior police officers to record their statements and provide details regarding the security arrangements and response during the unrest.
Among those who appeared before the investigation panel were Asad Raza, DIG South; Farrukh Lanjar, DIG East; Amjad Sheikh, SSP; and Mahzoor Ali, SSP South.
In addition, Arif Aziz, SSP City, and Zubair Nazir Sheikh, SSP East, also appeared before the committee and shared information related to the incident.
During the proceedings, SSP Amjad Sheikh briefed the committee in detail about the events that unfolded outside the consulate and the security measures taken by law enforcement authorities.
Officials also reviewed video footage of the rioting outside the diplomatic facility. According to sources, the committee is carefully examining CCTV recordings and evaluating the deployment of police personnel in the area at the time of the incident.
The inquiry panel is expected to summon more officers as part of the investigation to determine the sequence of events and assess whether adequate security arrangements were in place.
Sources said the committee has been tasked with compiling a comprehensive report containing its findings and recommendations. The report will be submitted to the Ministry of Interior Pakistan within seven days.
Authorities hope the investigation will clarify the causes of the unrest and help determine accountability for the deadly incident in Karachi.
