POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
Aleema Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, on Tuesday said that there was no question of seeking her brother’s release for medical treatment, while criticising certain party leaders over what she termed attempts to divert attention from core political objectives.
Speaking to the media near Adiala Jail, Aleema Khan strongly criticised PTI Senator Mashal Yousafzai, alleging that she was not acting in the best interests of the PTI founder. “I do not consider Mashal Yousafzai a well-wisher of the PTI founder,” she said, questioning her conduct and statements.
Aleema Khan also referred to Mashal Yousafzai and PTI leader Sher Afzal Marwat, saying both had previously been targeted for criticism. She claimed that Imran Khan had conveyed a message from jail, instructing party members to distance themselves from individuals he believed were using his name for personal or political gain.
Commenting on Imran Khan’s health, Aleema Khan said the family became aware of his medical report only after visiting Adiala Jail last Tuesday. She questioned how details of the report were leaked to the media and demanded to know who was responsible.
“I still believe this information was deliberately leaked to divert attention,” she said, adding that the timing of the disclosure raised serious questions.
Responding to a question about a proposed sit-in, Aleema Khan said that Sohail Afridi had independently announced plans for a protest on Thursday and that she had not issued any instructions in this regard. She alleged that the move was an attempt to divert attention from the party’s February 8 programme.
“If pressure is not maintained, this will keep happening,” she said, adding that the PTI founder was being portrayed as fearful to justify cancelling meetings. “We do not want the PTI founder’s treatment to be used as an excuse,” she added.
Aleema Khan’s remarks come amid ongoing internal differences within PTI and renewed debate over Imran Khan’s health, legal situation and future political strategy.
