POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to fostering friendly relations with Libya during a high-level meeting at the Prime Minister’s House.
The Libyan delegation included Prime Minister Dr. Osama Saad Hamad, Libyan Arab Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Field Marshal Khalifa Abu-al-Qasim Haftar, and Deputy Commander-in-Chief Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa Haftar. Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, along with Chief of Defence Staff and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir, were also present.
According to state-broadcaster PTV, both sides exchanged views on matters of mutual interest, emphasizing the importance of strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation in areas of common concern. Discussions highlighted the promotion of peace, stability, and development at regional and international levels.
PM Shehbaz “reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to fostering friendly relations with Libya and emphasised the importance of continued engagement and dialogue,” PTV reported. The Libyan leadership appreciated Pakistan’s role in regional affairs and expressed interest in expanding collaboration between the two countries.
The meeting concluded with an understanding to maintain close contact and explore avenues for future cooperation.
This visit follows weeks after Pakistan and Libya signed a more than $4 billion arms deal, underlining ongoing military and security collaboration. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) noted that the discussions also focused on regional security dynamics and professional cooperation between the armed forces of both nations.
The engagement reflects Pakistan’s continued efforts to strengthen strategic partnerships in the region while fostering diplomatic, economic, and security cooperation with Libya.
