POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Tuesday alleged that terrorist groups operating in Balochistan are acting as agents of Afghanistan and India, claiming that New Delhi is pursuing proxy aggression against Pakistan following its defeat in a conventional war.
Speaking to the media outside Parliament House, the defence minister said Pakistan was facing proxy attacks aimed at destabilising the country. “After losing the war, India is now attacking Pakistan through proxies,” he said, adding that such actions were being carried out with external backing.
Khawaja Asif stated that the militants were attempting to blackmail the state and were operating as agents of Pakistan’s enemies. “Those who are our enemies are backing them. They attack us with the support of hostile forces,” he said.
He reiterated the government’s resolve to counter terrorism in Balochistan, saying a strong and decisive response would be ensured. “With the support of the Baloch people, we will defeat this proxy aggression by India and Afghanistan,” he asserted.
Highlighting development efforts in the province, the defence minister said Balochistan had seen progress over the past decades, including the construction of roads and educational institutions. He emphasised that democratic culture was a fundamental right of the Baloch people and that they had full ownership over their natural resources.
“The federal government stands with the common people of Balochistan,” Khawaja Asif said, adding that efforts were being made to address grievances and promote stability in the province.
Referring to past incidents, the defence minister said the world was aware that Indian national Kulbhushan Jadhav was in Pakistan’s custody, claiming that there was concrete evidence of India’s involvement in terrorist activities within Pakistan.
His remarks come amid heightened tensions following a surge in terrorist attacks in Balochistan and renewed debate over regional security and cross-border militancy.
