POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s political affairs advisor, Rana Sanaullah, addressed key national issues during a Senate meeting, emphasizing Pakistan’s stance on terrorism, political affairs, and government assets.
Rana Sanaullah said that Afghanistan had been warned to choose between supporting terrorists or Pakistan. “Afghanistan did not understand the matter, so a response was given,” he said. He stressed that Pakistan will respond whenever terrorists attack from across the border, noting that the government’s current anti-terrorism policy should have been adopted years ago.
Addressing domestic politics, Sanaullah called on the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and his party to support the state and anti-terrorism operations. He also clarified the government’s stance on PTI founder Imran Khan’s health. “The Supreme Court has regulated his treatment, and doctors have confirmed the medical care provided is correct. Politics should not be played on this issue,” Sanaullah said.
On government operations and democratic participation, he urged opposition parties to engage constructively in parliament and committees to strengthen the Charter of Democracy. He criticized deadlock and called for negotiation over legal confrontations.
Sanaullah also highlighted Pakistan’s efforts to safeguard the country against cyber threats. “If the firewall of 40 billion rupees fails, it will be rebuilt — again and again. Protecting the nation against social media invasion is non-negotiable,” he said.
Finally, addressing the Punjab government’s purchase of a new plane, Sanaullah defended the acquisition as a long-term provincial asset rather than a personal or political benefit. He said the plane, replacing a 25-30 year-old aircraft, is technologically advanced and intended to serve Punjab for 30-40 years.
The remarks reflected Pakistan’s firm stance on national security, governance, and long-term planning amid ongoing political and regional challenges.
